Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)
Non-profit Organizations
GOTS is the world’s leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, including social & ecological criteria.
About us
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent certification for the entire textile supply chain. GOTS covers the entire post-harvest processing (including spinning, knitting, weaving, dyeing and manufacturing) of apparel and home textiles made with certified organic fibre (such as organic cotton and organic wool), and includes both environmental and social criteria. Key provisions include a ban on the use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), highly hazardous chemicals (such as azo dyes and formaldehyde), and child labour, while requiring strong social compliance management systems and strict waste-water treatment practices. GOTS was developed by leading international standard setters - Organic Trade Association (U.S.), Japan Organic Cotton Association, International Association Natural Textile Industry (Germany), and Soil Association (UK) to define globally-recognised requirements that ensure the organic status of textiles, from field to finished product. GOTS is a non-profit organisation which is self-financed. For more information please visit our website: www.global.standard.org.

🌍 This #AfricaDay, we’re highlighting the recent article by our Representative in Africa, Muktar Lamido Dodo. In “Unlocking Africa’s Sustainable Growth Through Organic Cotton Production,” he emphasises the transformative potential of organic cotton in driving economic development while safeguarding the environment. Africa’s cotton industry is projected to reach a value of $7.7 billion by 2029, presenting a significant opportunity for the continent. To fully optimise this opportunity, a shift towards organic production is essential. Conventional farming, often heavily reliant on synthetic fertilisers and pesticides, can degrade the soil, pollute water sources, and reduce long-term agricultural productivity. Muktar outlines how GOTS certification could play a pivotal role in providing transparency and credibility while supporting sustainable economic growth. 📖 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/dNp9V6Tp #OrganicCotton #GOTS #GlobalStandard #OrganicAgriculture #TextileIndustry #AfricanCotton #AfricanTextiles

We’re pleased to announce the launch of a Procedure for the Certification of Small Scale Operators in Low Risk Countries (aka Controlled Supply Chain Certification Scheme - CSCS) – designed to make certification more accessible. Small textile operations with 20 or fewer employees — often inherently sustainable and deeply committed to responsible practices — have long faced significant barriers to certification due to high costs and complex administration. That’s changing. Under GOTS, these enterprises can now obtain certification by joining or forming a Controlled Supply Chain Group (CSCG). This collective approach makes it easier and more affordable for small operations to demonstrate their commitment to organic and sustainable practices on a global stage. A big step forward for inclusivity, transparency, and sustainability in the textile industry! ⭐️ Key benefits: ✅ Distributes inspection and certification costs among participants ✅ Eases the path to certification for small-scale supply chains ✅ Encourages wider participation in sustainable textile production ✅ Reinforces traceability and transparency without compromising standards 📥 Download the full procedure here: https://lnkd.in/dEkp8NeQ #SmallBusiness #TextileIndustry #TextileCertification #Transparency #SupplyChain #SustainableTextiles #TextileManufacturing #ResponsibleBusiness

We’ve already crossed the planetary boundary for biosphere integrity. This is one of the few boundaries we cannot reverse. But it’s not too late to protect what remains. Conventional agriculture and synthetic textiles are driving biodiversity collapse, from harming pollinators to spreading microplastics that disrupt ecosystems. Organic and natural textiles offer a different path of healthier soils, less microplastic pollution and fewer toxic chemicals. 🦋 We believe in textiles that aim to protect life at every level. Choose GOTS to support restorative farming systems and safeguard biodiversity. 👚 #GOTS #InternationalBiodiversityDay #OrganicTextiles #PlanetaryBoundaries #SustainableFashion #Biodiversity #NaturalFibres #NaturalFashion
