Version 2.0 of the software tool ‘GOTS Monitor (Water/Energy) now available
The tool was developed on behalf of GOTS by Systainable Solutions to support the evaluation of factories’ compliance with the GOTS’ “Environmental management criteria”. GOTS Chapter 2.4.10 requires that operators need to have available and provide:
1. Data on energy and water consumption per kg of textile output and 2. Targets and procedures to reduce energy and water consumption per kg of textile output
Both requirements are covered by GOTS Monitor, as it determines actual performance and specific consumption values and provides realistic, factory-specific benchmark values that can be used both as improvement targets and milestones to monitor their progress. Additional benefits for operators: Achieved improvements are presented both in environmental and in monetary terms and it also allows to compare own performance vis-à-vis global benchmarks from facilities doing similar processing on similar machinery.
The revamped tool is free to use for GOTS certified textile companies. To download a copy, please click here. For more information about W/E Tool and upgrades in version 2.0, you can read

Central Database for Scope and Transaction Certificates
The Central Database System (CDS) is a collaborative technical platform for the chain of custody of GOTS and Textile Exchange. Developed in partnership between the two organizations, the CDS will integrate scope certificates, transaction certificates, and volume reconciliation across all supply chain stakeholders and certification bodies.
The main objectives of the CDS are to: - Increase efficiency, traceability, and transparency of certification and its related activities - Provide standard owners and supply chain operators greater access to certification data for monitoring and evaluation and continuous improvement - Prevent duplication of certification by creating a single source for verification and volume reconciliation - Provide accurate, public facing data on certified companies for sourcing - Provide opportunity for supply chain operators to share material traceability and transparency.
The CDS is being developed by Chainpoint BV with GOTS having secured financial support from the German Government. It is expected that pilot trials will commence in January 2019 with CBs moving to the platform for all Scope Certificates in April and using it to generate Transaction Certificates progressively thereafter. The CDS is expected to be fully operational the last quarter of 2019.
The CDS will provide GOTS with vital information regarding volumes and impact data of the Standard.

Munich Fabric Start - Fall 2018
For designers and brands, the look and feel of fabrics is imperative for new inspiration, which is one of the reasons why GOTS has been supporting the Munich Fabric Start for several years as an exhibitioner. This fall season, the former organic selection was replaced by the reSOURCE area, which aims at scaling sustainable alternative fabric sourcing by providing further categories for fabric samples such as regenerated cellulosics, recycled fibres and leather alternatives. GOTS certified fabrics of course continue to be a clearly labelled guide for designers to find fabrics made of organic fibres, where each processing step including chemical inputs have been audited by an independent Third Party. We welcome the rearrangement of the concept as it becomes easier for designers to choose between clearly labelled and categorized fabrics. Also, GOTS was proud to notice the steady growth and large variety of GOTS certified fabrics. GOTS Representative Lina Pfeifer organised a panel talk on “The Present & Future of Sustainable Garment Sourcing” with Sourcebook’s CEO Marte Hentschel, Benjamin Itter (Lebenskleidung) and André Matthes (Sustainable Textile School). The MFS is a good address for designers and brands to get an overview of GOTS certified fabrics & GOTS approved accessories as well as to get a personalized consultation of GOTS. We will join again in January 2019. Will you? Get in contact:

B2B & GOTS: an observation in the German speaking area in 2018
The German speaking regions, with an increasing awareness of the need for more sustainability in textiles continue to be the biggest buyers of GOTS goods. Those buyers include retailers (who directly sell to the end consumer) as well as enterprises selling GOTS goods B2B. This year, we were happy to see that a number of B2B business improved their customer communication strategy and acted as a multiplicator for GOTS to raise the awareness of the certification obligation for B2B traders/importers who sell GOTS goods. B2B traders selling GOTS goods with an annual turnover exceeding 5000 Euro are obliged to get certified by an independent Third Party, so that the flow of goods can be checked for a correct balance, to avoid logistical mistakes or wrong labelling. To help to communicate in the easiest and most understandable way including all information, we have prepared the flow chart “Are you allowed to label GOTS or mention GOTS in your advertising” which is available for download in German, English and Japanese. We recommend to share this with the respecting customers, may it be via invoices or newsletters. If you need any assistance, please let us know:
